Prom Hair & Make-Up

I have something fun for us this evening. We are approaching in to Prom and Wedding season here.  I have had the profound honor of doing my beautiful nieces hair for her Senior Ball. She is just beautiful and we had a blast playing with her hair and make-up. This weekend is her Senior Ball and her hair and make-up were done yesterday for a trial. For just going with it and winging it. It turned out beautifully.

This is my beautiful model. I know isn't she just gorgeous! I envy her beautiful skin and hair. To be a teenager again. I would go back in a heart beat I tell you. Well this beauty and I have had a  8 love years to get to know each other.  I love spending time with this girl. Great kid! :) So being asked to do her hair and make-up was a even bigger PLUS!

I also got to privilege of doing 3 of her beautiful friends for prom as well. I can't wait for this weekend. Its going to be a whole day of hair and beauty. Right up my ally is all I have to say.

This is the hair style she decided she wanted me to try to recreate. So since she has much longer hair and much much much thicker hair. So I told her that we might have to do something a little different but still have the same idea. Because I would have so much more hair to work with. Let me say this... This girls hair is so healthy and so silky. AMAZING really one can get their hair that perfect. You just wait girl once your older !! LOL  Are you guys ready to see what I recreated with her hair... Well with out further a due. Here you have it... 

Here is the side of her hair. We could only see one side of the hair style but I decided to put twists on both side of her head. I thought it would look weird if we only did one. So we used our own imagination on that part. Also, I thought it would look a lot better if we teased her hair a bit at the top. Adding some volume to give her hair due a bit of hight.  Added a little something else to the style, yet again making the style even more unique and making to more hers. :) Only she will have it and only her man will get to see her sport it. 

This is what we turned out with. For the most part the bottom of the little bun was done just like the hair style but with her hair she just has so damn much of it.  I had to think about what I was going to do with the remainder of the bits of her hair. So I curled the little bits and pin curled them on top of the bun. OMG the way this made her hair was amazing. This just made her hair look even more perfect for her special day.  Over all I thought the hair turned out perfect and I think she thought that as well... 

Now, we had discussed me doing her make-up before and she thought she might want to just do her own make-up. I told her we could play around with some make-up. So we did. Needless to say I am going to be doing her make-up as well. Apparently I made a good impression on her. She said she wanted something natural but something a little more then everyday make up because she was going to be taking pictures. I told her I could do something along those lines. This is what we came up with! 

Umm... Can you say freaking gorgeous??? Seriously! This was the makeup we came up with. We did a really blowy make up with a really natural eye and nude lip gloss. She loved and so did I. I am so glad she loved how everything turned out. I know she's just going to be beautiful when she's all dolled up and has her dress on. 

You may think... alright that a lot to do in one day... no we didn't stop at the hair and make-up. We even colored her hair too.  Now I told her that he hair was absolutely beautiful the way it was. She said she wanted something a little darker and a solid color all over. So thats what she got. 

Dark hair beauty right here. She loves it. Can you tell! Well ladies and gents. My Favorite Hair Color-For Dark Hair Lovers

Good Afternoon Guys... Today's topic of discussion is going to be hair color. I don't know about you, but when I am due for a hair cut and have an appointment coming up I know that is probably the best time to color my hair. Right before my appointment. Often, I will color my hair like two days before my appointment to get my hair cut. Coloring your hair your self isn't rocket science. I do it my self all the time. I actually prefer to do it my self because if I don't like it. I am the only one to blame and if its that bad I know where to find my hair dresser. HAHA JUST KIDDING I am licensed so I know what I am doing!

Now, I don't know about you but getting my hair cut and colored runs me anywhere from 80-100 bucks and more if you are having highlights being done. Mind you, I WILL NOT do my own highlights. I would rather have that done if I am going to be lighting my hair. I have a better chance of being able to get my highlights right then me trying to see in back of my head. LOL

Hair color though, their is no wrong or right way really... Just slap it on... let it sit...Wash it out. and there you go...

I feel by doing my own hair color it saves me some money when going to get my hair done. Me personally I don't mind paying to have my hair color and cut maybe every other time I go. Simply because I like the pampering. However, my husband is a plumber and often is being transferred to new jobs and their is often a layoff period. When times get tough you have to learn to pinch and save money where you can. This is one of my ways that I do... Coloring your hair before your hair cut. So not only do you have a freshly new cut but a awesome new color to rock with that adorable cut you just got. PS and you only paid half the price of what you pay if you were going in for a color and cut. Just keeps a pretty penny in your pocket when the need be.

Normally I would gravitate toward my tried and true Wella Color Touch hair color. However, this time my beauty supply was out of the color I normally get.

Wella- Color Touch 

This hair color comes in a tube. I love this hair color however sometimes I will go in to my beauty supply store and they are out of this color. A lot of people like this color cause they are frequently. However, if you can get your hands of some well products this is the best rout to go!

**Disclaimer** This is NOT a bottled hair color. You do not put on using a bottle. This is a cream hair color which you have to mix your self in a bowl.**

This is the color I get in the Wella Color Touch.  Its a deep dark red. I love this color. However, when I am concocting my "perfect color" I will only use about a 1/3 of the tube of the 44/65.  My hair naturally already has some red in it. I just like to bring out the red and make it a little more darker.  As I said before I will only use about 1/3 of the tube of the red when mixing my colors together. Then I will add another one of my favorite Wella Colors. 

4/77 a deep dark brown. Looks almost black but not quite there. This color is what helps me achieve the color that I desire. A deep dark Red. When looking at me normally my hair will look seriously almost black. Then as soon as I go in the sun you see the red highlight through my hair. Its seriously the most beautiful hair color EVER. If you like dark hair colors. I will add 1/3 of the 4/77 to my 1/3 of 44/65 in a bowl and add your developer to your mix. Now I often eye ball the amount of developer that I add to my hair color. So I would say just add enough to the amount of hair color you have and make sure it liquifies your cream hair color.  You don't want it so runny that it doesn't even stay on the  brush to apply it on your hair. You want it to be like paint if you will.  Liquified enough to make it a paint like consistency. If that makes sense. 

Color Touch Developer

Unfortunately, I don't do light hair colors on my self personally because I don't look good with lighter hair. I may or may not be planning on doing a lighter hair color blog for those of you who love light hair color. I am going to be doing my friends hair soon and I know she wants some lighter hair. :) I will for sure be blogging about it. :)

I have mentioned that on several occasions that I would go in searching for my Wella products and my colors might be out of stock. So I have found my favorite back up if for any reason my Wella products are out of stock for when I need to do my hair.

I have now used this Age Beautiful Anti-Aging hair color proven to fight all 5 signs of aging hair. In the color 4RM Dark Red Mahogany Brown. This color is the exact color I like to have my hair. Although, this is only a demi permanent hair color. That is the only draw back to this particular hair color. It doesn't last as long as my permanent stuff from Wella. :) In a pinch tho this stuff works perfectly till I can get my hands back on my Wella!

I still use my Wella developer with this hair color even though they are made by two different manufacturers.

I do not have grey hair that I can tell. However, I am sure I have a couple back there that I can see.  I feel like I'm almost 30 and this is the time to start using anti-aging anything!!

Shampoos & Conditioners

Lets talk Shampoos and Conditioners... I color my hair so I like to use shampoos and conditioners that enhance and keep my color looking fabulous. I also struggle with very tangly hair. I don't just mean your typical tangle here and there. I mean I will seriously sit and cry while I feel like I am pulling out my hair as a I am putting a brush through my hair. Seriously horrible.

So here are some of the Shampoos & Conditioners I use!!! 

Matrix- Biolage- Color Care Shampoo

I love this shampoo. I truly love how this really keeps my color on my hair fresh and vibrant. My head is very sensitive to a lot of the shampoos and conditioners out there. A lot of them will make my head itch so bad.  This is my favorite high end shampoo.

Herbal Essences Naked- 0% Parabens
Moisture Shampoo

I recently stumbled upon this gem. I used to love Herbal Essence shampoos and conditioners but my skin was just to sensitive to use them. Then when I found this I was like OMG! I knew I had to try this. Low and behold - it didn't irritate my skin. I absolutely love this shampoo. So much so that I couldn't help myself but buy.

Moisture Conditioner

I had to buy the conditioner that goes with it as well. So when I am done washing my hair with the Herbal Essences shampoo. I will use a little bit of the moisture conditioner along with...

the most magnificent cleansing conditioner I HAVE EVER USED. With out this conditioner I would not be able to get through the tangles. This is my life saver conditioner.  I would also like to note that I do not wash my hair daily. I usually have to wash my hair every other day.

L'oreal- Total Repair Extreme
Reconstructing Shampoo

Now as I have mentioned, I like to switch up my conditioner from time to time. I feel like each one does different things. I feel like the Biolage helps keep my hair color fresh and vibrant. With the Herbal Essences ones, I feel they really help my hair with the tangles. With the L'oreal shampoo I feel it really helps reconstruct my hair and keep it looking healthy and strong. Helps prevent breakage. Just another one of my favorites to use and super gentle on my head.

Nourishing Conditioner

This is one of the best conditioners I have found out there that helps with color vibrancy. I like to use this along with my Biolage shampoo. The two of them together work like magic. I will also use this with the L'oreal total repair shampoo. Such a good combo.
